5 Things  – February 7-11, 2022

Hello Alma Families!  Here are the 5 things you need to know today to keep up to date this week:

  1. Beginning on February 14, the Upper Grand District School Board is collecting information on student health and well-being from youth, parents/guardians/caregivers and school staff. The Well-Being and Health Youth Surveys are designed to help us understand how well we are doing creating safe, welcoming, and inclusive environments in our schools. It also provides important information about the physical and mental health of youth in our area. Grades 4-6 students will begin completing the survey starting the week of February 14 and before February 25th.  A letter was sent home to families of these students with further information earlier this week.  If any parent/guardian would like to access the parent/guardian survey, please use the following link:  https://survey.wdgpublichealth.ca/surveys/index.php?s=Y3MDMYWMH7
  1. There are a lot of fun events happening at Alma PS this month, including:
  • Black Heritage, Black Brilliance & Black Futures Learning (Ask your child what they have been learning.  We are having some amazing conversations!)
  • Feel Good Fridays for the month of February (Wear what makes you feel good.)
  • Kindergarten One Hundred Day – Friday, February 11
  • Valentines Day – Monday, February 14 (Valentines & store-bought, individually pre-packaged treats that are nut aware are okay to bring to share.  We will encourage students to take these treats home with them for consumption.  As always, class lists of names cannot be shared for privacy reasons).
  • Random Act of Kindness Day – Thursday, February 17 (Be kind just because you can be!)
  • Alma PS Olympics – Friday, February 18 (School-wide events will be completed in class cohorts.)
  • Family Day – Monday, February 21 (No School)
  • Pink Shirt Day – Wednesday, February 23 (wear pink in support of anti-bullying)
  1. The UGDSB Parent Involvement Committee is hosting a virtual event on March 2nd from 7:00 to 9:00 PM.  This session will focus on how parents can support their children in future education and career planning in grades 7 to 12 through “My Blueprint” and on gaining insight into how assessment in elementary and secondary classes can support student achievement. To register, please visit https://ugdsb.eventbuilder.com/PIC2022.
  1. Staff have been working very hard on finalizing students’ term 1 report cards.  As in the fall with our progress reports, they will be made available online starting on February 15, 2022.  To access your report cards or to learn more, visit https://www.ugdsb.ca/parents/connected/.
  1. The UGDSB is working on finalizing its school calendars for next year.  There is an opportunity for feedback this year on the dates selected.  You can learn more about this here:  https://www.ugdsb.ca/schools/school-year-calendars/.  The survey is at the bottom of the page and feedback will be accepted until February 16 at 4:00 PM.

Thanks as always for your continued support.  If there’s anything the school can do to help, please let us know.  We’re here to help!

Take care,

Jason Boyce
