Updates For September 19-23, 2022

Posted September 21, 2022

Hello Alma Families!  Here are the 5 things you need to know today to keep up to date this week:

  1. Public Health will be offering dental screenings on October 7, 2022 for students in JK, SK, Grade 2 and Grade 4.  Please see the attached letter in the 5 Things email sent to families for further information.

  1. This Friday marks the return of the Terry Fox School Run. The run will begin around 2:00 PM and will take place on our generous back field. Please feel free to join your child(ren) as they run to continue Terry Fox’s legacy and support cancer research. The event will end shortly before the end of the school day. If you plan to take your child home early, please let the office know. Thank you for your generous support during this campaign. If you have yet to donate, there is still time! You can donate using the link below. The total donation amount will be announced in an upcoming message.

  1. Our Milk Program is starting up once again!  If you would like your child to receive white or chocolate milk, please proceed to https://ugdsb.schoolcashonline.com/, which can also be found on our website.  If you need help accessing this program, please contact the office.  Either register or log in and you can purchase a card for 24 milks for $24 or 12 milks for $12.  When the lunchroom supervisor comes to deliver milk each day, your child can ask for white or chocolate, or pass on getting milk that day.  If you have a preference for your child to only have one kind, please let the office know and we can add it to their card when we print it.  Once a card is fully used, it will be returned in the child’s lunchbox and you can choose to order another if you wish.  Please remember that milk cards are only good for the duration of the year and funds received cannot be refunded, so as you purchase them, please make sure to plan accordingly.  Delivery of milk will start some time next week once orders have been placed.

  1. Calling all green thumbs!  Some parents from our school are generously organizing two events to work at reorganizing our front gardens.  Parents are welcome to come to the school on either Saturday, October 1 at 9 AM or Monday, October 3 at 9 AM.  Under our gardens are special holding tanks for the fire department so all work must be done by hand and digging must not be deeper than a shovel depth.  The board has reminded us that the use of power tools is not permitted due to this limitation.  If you have a tool of your own that you are comfortable with using, you may bring it to use.  Thanks to those who are involved in organizing this great effort!  If you have any questions, please contact the office.
  2. As a reminder, some children are choosing to bring toys or personal items to school.  While it is fun sometimes to bring an item to show a friend, we discourage trading of items or taking them into the classroom as they sometimes distract from learning opportunities.  If you could kindly reinforce this with your child if need be, that would be appreciated.  As well, our students have been great about remembering that personal electronics are not needed at school and if a student requires a device for the walk home, they are to be kept in their backpacks and powered off during the day.  Thanks for teaching your child these great skills.  It’s working wonderfully!

Thanks as always for your continued support.  If there’s anything the school can do to help, please let us know.  We’re here to help!

Take care,

Jason Boyce
