Updates For October 17-21, 2022

Posted October 20, 2022

Hello Alma Families!  Here are the 8 things you need to know today to keep up to date this week:

  1. Picture Day will be held on October 25, 2022.  It was confirmed with Lifetouch that the proofs should arrive at the school about 4-6 weeks after Picture Day. To purchase them, there are two options: you can go online with the unique code included in the proofs and order on the website, or you can use the form and then the school sends the forms in to Lifetouch.
  1. There will be a PA Day on Monday, October 24 as staff will be working on report cards that day.  We look forward to seeing you all back at school again on Tuesday for Picture Day.
  1. On October 31 we will once again be holding our Pumpkin Carving Contest.  The last few years it has been virtual but this year it will be in person.  Students are welcome to carve or decorate a pumpkin for the following categories:
  • Largest By Weight
  • Best Carved
  • Most Unusual
  • Most Perfect Shape
  • Best Decorated

Students can bring their pumpkins to school the morning of the 31st and volunteers will be here to help sort their pumpkin into one of these categories.  It would help if you labeled the category on the bottom of the pumpkin.  The winner will be selected by Mrs. von Neiderhausern, our custodian, and Mr. Boyce.  Students will also be able to vote for their favourite pumpkin in the People’s Choice Award.  The School Council has graciously offered to purchase prizes for the winners and a small item for each child in the school.  If you need a pumpkin and don’t have one, we have a few extras which were donated.  Please contact the school and we can get you one until our supply runs out.  When choosing a design, please remember that it is a kindergarten to grade 6 school and designs should be about an appropriate theme and not overly scary, etc.  Last year there were so many creative ideas – we can’t wait to see what you come up with!  If you have a battery operated candle you would like to send in the pumpkin, please feel free to do so.  Pumpkins will need to be picked up by the end of the day.

  1. We have been fortunate to secure a vendor for Pizza Days and their paperwork has been received by the UGDSB.  Stay tuned for further information about ordering in the coming days.
  2. The Guelph Storm kindly sent a coupon for 1/2 price tickets for October 30.  These coupons went home yesterday.
  3. Please remember that the last day to enter your School Council poinsettia fundraiser purchase online is Monday, October 24.  Once you have made your payment, please send the form back to the school so we can use it to cross-reference orders.
  4. This week we were informed of the retirement of Mr. Tansley, our custodian.  He has served this community for many years and although he has been off for the last little while, his legacy of keeping our building clean continues on with our current team.  We thank him for his service and wish him a happy retirement.
  5. Please see the flyer sent to your email regarding an opportunity for parents to attend a virtual presentation entitled “Moving Forward: Post Pandemic Mental Health” hosted in partnership by the Upper Grand’s Parent Involvement Committee along with CMHA and Wellington Catholic DSB on November 8th featuring Kevin Cameron, the Executive Director of the Centre for Trauma Informed Practices.  Registration details can be found in the flyer!

Thanks as always for your continued support.  If there’s anything the school can do to help, please let us know.  We’re here to help!

Take care,

Jason Boyce
