Updates For October 24-28, 2022

Posted October 28, 2022

Hello Alma Families!  Here are the 5 things you need to know today to keep up to date this week:

  1. We are very excited to announce that Mrs. von Niederhausern, who likes to be called Brigitte by our students, has accepted the full time custodial position at Alma PS.  She has been here regularly and is a wonderful permanent addition to our team.
  1. We have had two very generous donations recently to the school.  Alma Bible Church has kindly donated $250 for sports equipment in honour of Mr. Bachuk, knowing of his love of student sports.  Our staff will work together to plan for new items to order in the coming weeks.  Also, Mapleton Acres Premium Flower Farm has donated 150 tulip and daffodil bulbs for our school’s front flower beds.  A special thank you goes out to Miss Robinson’s and Mrs. Hons’ students for planting them during the beautiful fall weather this week.
  1. On October 31 we will once again be holding our Pumpkin Carving Contest.  Students are welcome to carve or decorate a pumpkin for the following categories:
  • Largest By Weight
  • Best Carved
  • Most Unusual
  • Most Perfect Shape
  • Best Decorated

Students can bring their pumpkins to school the morning of the 31st and volunteers will be here to help sort their pumpkin into one of these categories.  It would help if you labeled the category on the bottom of the pumpkin.  The winner will be selected by Mrs. von Neiderhausern and Mr. Boyce.  Students will also be able to vote for their favourite pumpkin in the People’s Choice Award.  The School Council has graciously provided prizes for the categories and a small gift for each child in the school. When choosing a design, please remember that it is a kindergarten to grade 6 school and designs should be about an appropriate theme and not overly scary, etc.  Last year there were so many creative ideas – we can’t wait to see what you come up with!  If you have a battery operated candle you would like to send in the pumpkin, please feel free to do so.  Pumpkins will need to be picked up by the end of the day.

  1. As was shared earlier this week, please remember that pizza orders are due by November 3 at midnight on School Cash online here:  https://ugdsb.schoolcashonline.com/.
  1. Please remember that on October 31, students are invited to wear orange and black or fall colours to celebrate together.  Students are not to wear costumes to school that day.  If your family chooses to go trick or treating, please remember that sending a reasonable amount of candy in lunches is appreciated.  Please also remember that we are a nut aware school and many candies contain nut products.  Thanks in advance for considering these items when packing lunches for the week.

Thanks as always for your continued support.  If there’s anything the school can do to help, please let us know.  We’re here to help!

Take care,

Jason Boyce

Principal Alma PS
