Updates For February 21-24, 2023

Posted February 21, 2023

Hello Alma Families!  Here are the 7 things you need to know today to keep up to date this week:

  1. Live Free is an annual event in support of our nutrition program from the Children’s Foundation and the Food and Friends Program.  This fundraiser helps to provide healthy food to hungry minds in our school and in our community.  Food insecurity is an ongoing concern in our surrounding communities and this program helps to mitigate some of those issues.  The official date is on March 3, 2023, which is also our PA Day.  Students will be given a chance to sign a pledge card that says “I believe that all kids should live free from hunger” if they choose.  If your family would like to make a donation to this cause, you can do so until Thursday, March 2 at midnight using School Cash Online at our website here:  https://ugdsb.schoolcashonline.com/

  1. Tomorrow, Wednesday, February 22, is Pink Shirt Day within the UGDSB.  Students may choose to wear a pink shirt, or any other pink item, to show their support against bullying.  At Alma PS we work really hard to ensure that everyone feels safe, known, heard and that they belong.  Thank you everyone for your continued efforts to make our school a great place to learn and work!

  1. Our school is excited to introduce Victoria Jolley as our new afternoon Educational Assistant at Alma PS.  We welcome her to our team and look forward to her support.

  1. Our Book Fair is underway!  Items can be ordered online or in store at Magic Pebble from now until March 7.  You can learn more at the Magic Pebble website here:  https://magicpebble.ca/schools/book-fairs.  Thanks as always for supporting this fun initiative and for making reading an important part of your family routine as we learn not for school but for life.

  1. The Guelph Storm is having a “Student day” on Friday, March 17th at the Sleeman Centre in Guelph.  To recognize students and staff who work hard, they are offering a 50% discount for this hockey game.  A voucher with further information has been sent home.

  1. The Alma Softball Executive Committee has asked that we share some information about the upcoming 2023 season.  Please check your email for registration information or their contact information as well.

  1. Please see the emailed flyer for the Alma Optimists Holiday Break Swim Program on Wednesday, March 15, 2023.

Thanks as always for your continued support.  If there’s anything the school can do to help, please let us know.  We’re here to help!

Take care,

Jason Boyce
