Notes From Week 1 & A Tasty Treat
Hello Alma families. It has been wonderful to see all of the hard work of our staff translate into a great start-up for our students. Clearly, you as parents have done a great job of preparing your children for the transition back to school and things are going well. As always, if there’s ever anything you wonder or worry about, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher or the office. We are here to help make both you and your child feel safe, known, heard and that you belong.
The Home-School Team relationship is key to having a successful school year. As information from teachers comes out, be sure to watch for the preferred way to contact teachers. They will be sending this information out. Please do not hesitate to contact them if you require any assistance.
A few quick things to note are:
– Thank you for continuing to screen your child daily. This is an important part of keeping our school safe. Using the online screening tool is a great way to create a morning routine. There is a link to it on our school website https://www.ugdsb.ca/AlmaPS/ or you can find it here: https://covid-19.ontario.ca/school-screening/. Bookmarking it on your phone or computer is a handy way to start your day.
Please remember if your child is feeling unwell, please keep them home. If uncertain, the link above helps you to determine your next steps. Thanks for doing your part to keep our school safe.
– Please label all items coming to school, especially for younger students. This helps us to avoid a large pile of lost and found items.
– Thanks for continuing to be wise when parking and walking to the school when dropping off students in the morning. Things have been safe and respectful of neighbouring properties thus far and we appreciate you continuing in this way.
– On the yard when students are with their class they are able to be unmasked, but when they are near students from other classes they must be masked. While the kids have done great thus far, as we work to establish great habits with this new routine, a gentle reminder from home would be appreciated.
– Our first School Council Meeting will be held on Thursday, September 16 from 6:30-8:00 PM. At this time, all meetings with parents will be held virtually using a Google Meet link. More information will come from our School Council Chair, Amanda Reid, including the link. If you are new to the Alma PS family and want to learn more about this amazing group of parents, please reach out to the school for more information.
– Please remember to return forms sent from the school back to help update our records. Key forms to return include the Student Verification Form, the Consent To Share Personal Information Form and the Walking Trip Permission Form. If you are interested in the Insurance provided, please sign up.
– Please remember that initial class placements are tentative. Our class numbers are being reviewed by the UGDSB Staffing Committee this week and if there are changes, they will be communicated as soon as possible.
– Dhrumin from Alma Town Convenience has graciously offered to each Alma PS student one free scoop of ice cream. Please check your child’s backpack for this coupon. Please take the attached ticket to the store prior to Saturday, September 18th, 2021 to redeem. Enjoy! Thanks to Alma Town Convenience for this phenomenal gesture.
