International Women’s Day – March 8 is International Women’s Day. It’s a global day to recognize and celebrate women’s and girl’s social, economic, cultural, and political achievements. It’s also a time to raise awareness of the progress made towards achieving gender equality and the work remaining to be done.

On behalf of the CHSS Tech. Department, a special shout out today on International Women’s Day to all of the young women in the school taking Tech. courses and learning about careers in the technology and the skilled trades!

Ramadan – Ramadan starts on March 10th and ends around April 10th. During Ramadan, Muslims are not earning or drinking during the day until the sun sets. It is celebrated in the 9th month of the Islamic calendar. While Muslims are celebrating Ramadan, they volunteer in the community, donate food, clothing and money. It is believed that the 9th month of the calendar is when Allah revealed Islam’s holy book – the Qur’an – the prophet Mohammed. There are several groups who do not have to fast which includes the elderly, young children, people with illnesses and pregnant women. Eid is celebrated at the end of Ramadan. This is when Muslims gather to feast and exchange gifts with family friends and the community.
