Principal Appreciation Day – In honour of Principal Appreciation Day, we would like to give a shout out to Ms. Pierce and Ms. McDowall today, to celebrate them. So, when you see them in the halls, wish them a happy Principal’s Day. THe best fist for them today would be to see you in your classes for all 4 periods 🙂

May is Asian/South Asian Heritage Month – May is Asian Heritage Month in Canada, a time to reflect on and recognize the many contributions that people of Asian origin have made and continue to make to Canada. Asian Heritage Month has been celebrated since the 1990s. In December 2001, the Senate adopted a motion proposed by Senator Vivienne Poy to officially designate May as Asian Heritage Month in Canada. In May 2002, the Government of Canada signed an official declaration to announce May as Asian Heritage Month.

May is Canadian Jewish Heritage Month – National Jewish Heritage Month is a great opportunity to learn about the impact of Jewish heritage in communities across the country, and to appreciate the significant contributions made by Jewish Canadians in the fields of medicine, law, politics, arts, business and philanthropy. Canadian Jewish Heritage Month was officially recognized by the federal government in March of 2018 after a unanimous vote in the House of Commons. The month of May was chosen because of its meaningfulness to the Jewish community around the world. Notably, it often lines up with Shavuot or the “Feast of Weeks”, which celebrates the spring harvest and commemorates the revelation of the Torah.

Beltane – Beltane is the Gaelic May Day festival held on the first day of May in Ireland and Scotland, celebrating the beginning of summer and open pasturing. It is traditionally held on May 1 and is a day of celebration for many Pagan or Wiccan folks.

Ultimate Frisbee – All students who expressed interest in the Ultimate Frisbee team – please meet on the soccer field toda at 12pm for an information meeting.

Volunteer Hours – Hey Huskies! Are you looking for opportunities to earn volunteer hours? WOuld you like to earn some volunteer hours right here at our school? Next week on Friday and Saturday you could potentially do just that during out Annual Spring Sale! If you would like to learn more about volunteering at Spring Sale, please see Ms. Peterson for more info.

Job Fair – The Guelph Works Epic Job Fair is taking place May 8 from 1:00 – 2:30 pm. This is an opportunity to meet with local employers who are offering full-time, part time and summer employment. If you are interested in attending the job fair, please pick up a field trip form from Ms. Rivers in Guidance.

Grade 12 Grad Trip – Attention Grade 12 Grads! The Niagara Falls Grad Trip is happening on Friday May 24th. The cost is $30. See your Gr. 12 Homeroom teachers, or Ms. Angus for a permission form. This trip is a first come first served basis, so get your forms in!

Chess Tournament – Hey Huskies, the CHSS chess tournament continues today at lunch in C106.

Bake Sale – Bake Sale will be happening today after school. Please remember to line up outside of the bake shop.
