Black History and Black Brilliance – Every month is a good month to celebrate Black History and Black Brilliance. Have you heard of Carrie Best? Carrie was an investigative journalist and the co-founder of a newspaper called The Clarion. In the 1940s, Carrie filed a lawsuit against a movie theatre that racially discriminated against her. The lawsuit failed. However, years later, Carrie heard of a young woman named Viola Desmond. Viola had had a similar experience at the exact same movie theatre. Carrie’s newspaper raised awareness and money for Viola’s case. It helped end racial segregation in Nova Scotia.
