An Attitude of Gratitude

Posted May 7, 2018

This week is Child and Youth Mental Health Week and we are focusing on GRATITUDE. Gratitude is an attitude and way of living that has been shown to have many benefits in terms of happiness, health, satisfaction in life, and the way we relate to others. It goes hand in hand with mindfulness in its focus on the present and appreciation for what we have now, rather than wanting more and more.  Feeling and expressing gratitude creates positive emotions like joy, love, and contentment which research shows can undo the grip of negative emotions like anxiety and depression. Research also shows that those who practice an attitude of gratitude daily are more likely to report doing acts of service for others.

“Happy people aren’t more grateful, grateful people are more happy”

This week we will go out of our way to practice gratitude individually and as a school community creating opportunities and spaces for students to come talk about and express gratitude. We will also offer opportunities for meditation, Yoga, Zumba, and StrongFit .
