Elora Public School Council

Date: April 9, 2024

  1. Welcome and Introductions

  1. Approval of Minutes from Feb 20, 2024 – Approved by Shannan, Seconded by Darcy

 

  1. P/VP Report (Natasha / Emma) 

 

  • We continue to have many clubs and sports running at Elora PS. 
  • Thursday we are welcoming Special Olympics Athletes from surrounding schools to our school to participate in a sports event. We will have student leaders from our students create change group helping out throughout the day.
  • Lots of trips continue to happen and we are excited by all the events students are having a chance to participate in. 

 

Many Exciting upcoming events

  • Class photos were moved from March to May 8 – we are hoping to have everyone at school on that day so they can be a part of the photo
  • we have two of our classes presenting at the Elora Earth Day presentation at Victoria Park in Elora
  • Empowerment Day is May 2nd
  • Mental Health and Education Week is May 6th-10th
  • We will be having our Performance of Beauty and the Beast on May 8th in the evening
  • Chess tournament May 10 
  • Green Gryphons are supporting the purchase of a community bike fix it wagon. As part of this donation we will be having the team here to “tune up” bikes during the performance of Beauty and the Beast – families can drop off their bikes, watch the performance and then come back out to a finely tuned bike. 
  • Grade 8 Graduation – June 24th

 

Question that was brought forward:

  • How do we let parents know about the clubs and sporting events that are upcoming? (Natasha and Emma will brainstorm ideas and try to find a way to let parents know about upcoming events and clubs.)

  1. PRO Grant
  • Natasah to extend an invitation to the rest of Centre Wellington to increase numbers.
  • Natasha to email Social Media presentation to our community in an email including the link for registration. 
  • Colette to grab snacks and drinks for the event

 

  1. Krispy Kreme
  • Natasha will notify parents about pick up. Thanks to the volunteers. 
  • Colette will pick up gas cards for those driving to pick up donuts.
  • Natasha to send details of when to pick up donuts to the parent community for those who have ordered.  4:00 – 5:30 
  • Colette and Shannan are able to help out with picking up of donuts at the school. 

 

  1. June Family Picnic
  • Due to Highschool Prom on the same evening as the picnic Chris Jess is unavailable.
  • Family Picnic will be on Thursday, June 6
  • Looking into Pizza to determine where we can order from for the night of. 
  • We will be offering popsicles for Dessert and looking into the possibility of pop/juice for Drinks.
  • We will use School Cash Online to order dinner for the family picnic. 
  • Basket Draws will happen that night (1 basket per 2 classes?) – students to put their tickets in during the week leading up to the family picnic. Prior to deciding on this we will check in with staff. 
  • Natasha to add in a save the date into “5 Things” for June 6 so families can add it to their calendars.
  • Emma to reach out to bands, to see if we can secure music for the picnic. (Parent/S.Keane/students)
  • Natasha to follow up with staff to make sure they are ok with baskets.
  • Do we want to add in any other events?

 

  1. Fundraising 
  • Purchasing from Playground funds
    • Buddy bench to be purchased from Learning Foundation – UGLF
    • Basketball nets – repair and look into putting two new nets on the walls (one in intermediate and one in Junior/primary)
  • Krispy Kreme Funds will be used to support  – technology (Chromebooks and Ipads)
  • Landscaping – Raised flower bed for plants. 
  • Baskets – First three weeks of May – collecting items, wrapped ready to go prior to May long weekend
  • 2024/2025 School Council Fundraising 
    • This will be discussed at the May meeting

 

  1. Other Business
  • Planning for Staff appreciation Day from Parent Council – June 7th – Alison to look into teacher appreciation lunch and ordering. 
  • Landscaping – front garden clean up, earth day clean up, classes to sign up to come out to clean up, volunteers for parents to support on day of,
