Dot Day Is Almost Here!

Posted September 7, 2023

Dear Harris Mill Families;

During the week of September 11th, the students and staff of Harris Mill will once again be joining over 20 million people in 195 countries around the world to celebrate International Dot Day! Your children will read the story, and participate in “dot” activities (art, writing, conversations, etc).

International Dot Day was started in 2009 to celebrate the inspiring story, The Dot/ Un Bon Point Pour Zoe, by Peter Reynolds. It is the story of a caring teacher who dares a doubting student to trust in her abilities by being brave enough to make her mark!” What begins with a small dot on a piece of paper becomes a breakthrough in confidence and courage.

Our celebrations will wrap up on Friday, September 15th with Harris Mill Dot Day. Students are encouraged to show their creativity by wearing dots – think “round and colourful!” You can also celebrate as a family by reading the story together and discussing its themes of bravery, imagination and self-expression.

Happy International Dot Day!!
