Hyland Heights News for February 5th

Posted February 5, 2021

Parents & Guardians,

As we are sure you have heard, in person learning resumes for all students in the UGDSB on Monday, February 8th. We are excited to welcome our students back and will see everyone at 850am on Monday morning.

We wanted to share few things that are very important to review before our students return:

-All of the previous COVID 19 precautions remain in place. One notable difference, however, is that children must wear their masks now at recess.

-Each child and staff member must complete the self-screening tool that is posted on our school website. Please do not send your child to school if they do not pass the screening and follow the advice that is given when you receive your child’s self-screening results.

-Every person who is on our school property must wear a mask. Please do not come onto school property if you do not have a mask. We have supervisors who can help students walk to their classrooms if needed. Please help us keep everyone safe.

-Parents and children need to try to arrive as close to the school bell as possible to avoid gathering in the yard. As well, if you are picking up your children after school, please try to arrive at school as close to the bell as possible. Children and parents cannot gather in the yard before or after school.

-Due to Public Health guidelines, we cannot accept outside deliveries. Staff cannot accept hot lunches, drinks etc at the front door. Thanks for your understanding. Remember to dress for the weather and to bring back any items that may have been taken home over the remote learning period such as indoor shoes and pencil cases.

-Also due to Public Health advice, we will not be sharing Valentine cards or goodies at school. We know this is disappointing, but necessary to keep everyone safe.

Over the remote learning period, we loaned out all of our school Chrome books and even borrowed some from the high school. It is very important that all SEA computers and computers that were borrowed from our school and the high school be returned on Monday. Please make sure the computer is returned with the power cord and with your child’s name on it. Parents can drop the computers off with the front office. Please ring the bell for service and a staff member will meet you or your child can bring it back to school in the backpack safely.

Please remember to use our Kiss n’ Ride that is in the high school parking lot, close to our kindergarten pack. The front parking lot in front of the school is closed for buses at the beginning and end of the day.

While we have been remote learning, staff have started to recognize Black Heritage, Black Brilliance, and Black Futures month. We have proudly raised the Pan African Flag, had daily announcements and tweets, and are working with the G.E.T Outreach group on virtual presentations. Staff have explored resources and are planning activities in their classrooms. When students return, we have slideshows and various visuals posted around the school to help acknowledge this important month.

Thank you for all your support over the remote learning period. As parents ourselves, we know how hard everyone has worked to help their children navigate this unprecedented time. We are proud of our students and staff, and are excited to welcome everyone back on Monday.

Take care and have a good weekend.
