Hyland Heights News for February 12th

Posted February 12, 2021

Good evening Parents & Guardians,

We wanted to wish all of our Chinese Canadian students and families a very happy lunar new year. We hope that you have a joyous and safe celebration. Black Heritage, Black Brilliance, and Black Futures month continues here in the UG with daily announcements and classroom activities. We are excited to welcome The G.E.T Outreach group into our school virtually to share more about Black Brilliance with us in the next couple of weeks.

Thank you to all parents and students who returned Chromebooks that had been borrowed. They have been cleaned and are being allotted back to classrooms.

As we are sure you have heard, March Break has been moved to April during the week of the 12th.

A Few Reminders as we head into the weekend:

-Each child and staff member must complete the self-screening tool that is posted on our school website. Please do not send your child to school if they do not pass the screening and follow the advice that is given when you receive your child’s self-screening results.

-For the return to in person learning, students and staff are required to wear masks indoors and outdoors. Gaiters, scarves, neck warmers, or balaclavas cannot be substituted or used in place of cloth masks and/or medical masks. Face masks must be two layers and have ear loops. More information is available on the WDG Public Health website.

-It is also a good idea to send more than one mask to school with your children, as sometimes masks can be soiled. If we can be of any assistance in obtaining a face mask, please contact the office.

-Parents and children need to try to arrive as close to the school bell as possible to avoid gathering in the yard. As well, if you are picking up your children after school, please try to arrive at school as close to the bell as possible. Children and parents cannot gather in the yard before or after school. The next week or so is forecasted to be very cold. Please dress appropriately for the weather as children will be outside.

Take care and have a great family day weekend. We will see everyone back to school on Tuesday, February 16th.
