Hyland Heights News for March 5th

Posted March 5, 2021

Parents & Guardians,

Good evening, it’s been another fantastic week here at Hyland Heights. Today was Hawks spirit day. There are other spirit days during the month of March including:

-Hawaiian Shirt Day- March 12th
-Green Day or Leprechaun Day- March 17th
-Rock Your Socks Day in recognition of World Down Syndrome Day- March 22nd
-Wear Purple in recognition of World Epilepsy Day- March 26th

Please continue to check our school website for other updates. We also post to the UG Connect App and Twitter. Last week, The Ministry of Education revised the self-screening requirements for all students in Ontario. Please check out our website for more information.

A few reminders as we head into the weekend.

-Each child and staff member must complete the self-screening tool that is posted on our school website. Please do not send your child to school if they do not pass the screening and follow the advice that is given when you receive your child’s self-screening results.

-If your children do need to be sent home due to COVID protocols please have a plan in place for quick pick up. Children do need to remain in our isolation room while awaiting pick up. Please also remember that our school staff must follow the directions of Public Health and that we are doing our best. We recognize that this can be stressful for families as well.

-Please remind your children to dress appropriately for the ever changing late winter and early spring weather. Children will be going outside. It is also a good idea to pack an extra change of clothes. Please label all of your children’s belongings as well.

-Please also have emergency plans in place if buses are unable to service your child’s route at the end of the school day. This is especially important when inclement weather hits. It might be a good idea to have an in town plan in place for children who live on roads that are frequently closed. We realize that this can be difficult and we appreciate your preparedness.

-Please remember to call into the school if your child is absent. This is important to ensure the safety of all of our students. As we sure you are aware, this is an important task for our office coordinator Mrs. Marshall or Mrs.Turai every day. This is important to do even if we have sent a child home due to COVID protocols. Thank you for your cooperation.

-Please remember to bring water to school to drink. Our water fountains are closed due to COVID protocols but our water bottle refilling stations are open.

-Grade 8 Grad Photo Day is Monday, March 15th. Please see the flyer that was sent home with each student.

Take care and have a great weekend. It looks like spring temperatures are on the way for next week! Think spring!
