Hyland Heights News for May 20th

Posted May 20, 2021

Good morning,

We want to again say how proud we are of our students and families who are learning remotely. Keep up the great work Hawks!  If you have any questions or concerns please reach out to your child’s teacher. They are here to help talk through issues.

This Friday is ready for summer spirit day! Wear your flip flops, your shorts, and shades and celebrate the arrival of summer.

At Hyland Heights, we’re taking action to build an even more inclusive and accessible school. We are helping to celebrate the valuable contributions of Canadians with disabilities and recognize the efforts of people who are removing barriers to accessibility and inclusion. Next week, National Accessibility week starts and we will kick it off on May 25th with a school wide, virtual assembly. We are fusing National Accessibility week with the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics and Olympics. Stay tuned for exciting guest speakers and activities designed to get us up and moving. We’ll conclude the week on June 2nd with another virtual assembly.

The UGDSB will offer a remote learning option for students in the 2021-22 school year. Please note that the UGDSB remote learning program for the 2021-22 school year will NOT be a “hybrid model.” Students who register for remote school will be placed in the standalone remote school, where classes are staffed by dedicated remote learning teachers. Please see our website for information about the 2021-22 Elementary Remote School (ERS) and registration form. Registration for the ERS is open from today until June 3rd. Please register before the deadline of June 3, 2021, at 4pm. You only need to register if you want your child to attend school remotely. No action is required if you want your child to attend in person.

If you know of families who are not receiving our emails and call outs, please tell them to call our office, leave a message and Mrs. Marshall or Mrs. Marnie will be pleased to help them update it.

Finally, please be aware that our primary playground (the metal structure that is painted yellow, red, and blue) is closed for repairs. Please do not use the structure.

Please continue to check our school and board website for additional information.

A reminder that there is no school on Monday due to the long weekend. School resumes on Tuesday.  Thank you.
