Hyland Heights News for May 26th

Posted May 26, 2021

Good afternoon,

This Friday is blue and white day in honour of the Toronto Maple Leafs. Let’s support the Maple Leafs in their playoff run! Go Leafs go! Wednesday, June 2nd is Canada spirit day. Wear your red and white as we welcome Paralympic champion Patrick Anderson for our virtual assembly.

At Hyland Heights, we’re taking action to build an even more inclusive and accessible school. We are helping to celebrate the valuable contributions of Canadians with disabilities and recognize the efforts of people who are removing barriers to accessibility and inclusion. It’s National Accessibility week and we kicked it off on May 25th with a school wide, virtual assembly. Sarah Gillies joined us and shared with us that responding to challenges and believing in ourselves takes practice.

Next week, we welcome Patrick Anderson a three- time gold medalist in wheelchair basketball to Hyland Heights. Don’t miss our virtual assembly on June 2nd at 1245pm. And don’t forget there are daily challenges for students and their families to get active together. These challenges can be found on our website and Twitter.

The UGDSB will offer a remote learning option for students in the 2021-22 school year. Students who register for remote school will be placed in the standalone remote school, where classes are staffed by dedicated remote learning teachers. Please see our website for information about the 2021-22 Elementary Remote School (ERS) and registration form. Registration for the ERS is open from today until June 3, 2021, at 4pm. You only need to register if you want your child to attend school remotely. No action is required if you want your child to attend in person.

Finally, please be aware that our primary playground (the metal structure that is painted yellow, red, and blue) is closed for repairs. Please do not use the structure. We are working hard to get it repaired in a timely manner.

Please continue to check our school and board website for additional information.

A reminder that June 4th is a PD Day. Teachers will be continuing work on class placements for the 21/22 school year and working on assessment and evaluation for term two report cards as well. Thank you.
