Important Information About School Reorganization at Hyland Heights

Posted September 15, 2021

Dear Parents/Guardians,

As mentioned in earlier communications, schools are subject to changes in class structures and/or staffing based on confirmed enrolment numbers following the start of school. Schools are staffed initially based on enrollment numbers and projections submitted the previous school year in the spring .

In our case, current enrollment numbers will require significant restructuring of classes over the next few days.

To be compliant with Ministry regulations and UGDSB classroom structure guidelines, we will complete all moves by Monday, September 20th, 2021. This will not impact all classes and students, but it will impact several.

If there is a change that will affect your child, we will be sending home a letter on Friday to confirm class placements. If you do not hear from us, it means that there will be no change for your child.

Our staff will be making decisions in the best interest of students. If a student requires a change in class placement, we will assure the social and academic needs of each student are being met. A smooth transition is our goal for students.

We are required to be compliant with this new class structure and therefore we must make these student moves. All our staff have been focused on helping students become oriented to our broader school structure and routines, with an understanding that our teaching assignments and class placements remain tentative until our final numbers are confirmed. All students can expect that after this reorganization is complete on Monday, September 20th, no further changes will be made to class organization for this school year.

Please refrain from calling our office, in anticipation of a change. We will be sending home a letter on Friday when we have made changes. We are busy working so we can have everything in place for Monday.

We know that some of our students will find this process difficult and it is understandable that they will need our support as they get used to a new placement. As parents and guardians, please help reduce your child’s anxiety by remaining optimistic and please do not hesitate to communicate information you feel would be helpful to your child’s new teacher.

Thank you to all our families for your support and positive feedback through our first week of school re-opening. We have had a great start and look forward to a great year ahead with your children, our students. We look forward to working together to make these transitions as smooth as possible.

Sincerely,

K. Martin                                      A. Papavasiliou
