Hyland Heights News for June 1st

Posted June 1, 2022

Good evening Hawk Families,

We are sending out our weekly blurb a little earlier this week, so that we can remind families that this Friday is a PD day. Students do not attend school. Staff will be working on class placement for the 22/23 school year and assessment and evaluation.

Families with junior kindergarten students starting in September are reminded of the opportunity to attend our JK orientation on Friday, June 3rd. Families will have received more information with a specific time. If you did not receive this information, please contact the office at 519-925-3745 ext 221.

Parents and guardians of bus 541 and 542 please check your child’s backpack for a letter regarding a change for your child(ren’s) transportation. The changes take effect on Monday, June 6th. Please contact the transportation department with any questions. https://stwdsts.ca/

On June 2nd, our school is a polling station for the provincial election. We will have a security guard at our front entrance helping to direct voters. We anticipate that the front parking lot will be busier than normal.

During the evening on June 2nd, we also have our School Council MacMillian’s pick up. Remember all items need to be picked up that evening as they are frozen and we do not have space to store them. Pick up will happen outside the library from the parking lot. The library entrance is just to the left of the daycare entrance. Members of the School Council will be there to help guide parents. More reminders and details from the School Council will be coming soon.

Our last virtual School Council meeting of the year is on June 6th at 6pm. New members are always welcome. Please call the school for the meeting code or follow School Council on Facebook for the meeting code.

The month of June is Pride month. Many of our students, staff, parents/guardians and community members identify as members of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community. Flying the Pride flag not only signals that our schools are safe spaces for everyone, it also aligns with our guiding principles of inclusion and student and staff well-being, and our Equity Plan.  Hyland Heights is flying the Progressive PRIDE flag during the month of June. Should you have more questions about the flag and how it supports our vision, please visit our UGDSB Website at: https://www.ugdsb.ca/

The Upper Grand District School Board is undergoing a Multi-Year Plan (MYP) process to set the board’s priorities for the next four years. Learn more at https://www.ugdsb.ca/board/ugdsb-multi-year-plan-process/   .

With the arrival of the warmer weather and people spending more time outdoors Wellington Dufferin Guelph Public Health is sharing information with families about the dangers of ticks and Lyme disease. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1lA0khrFUBUIQwUNAE9ru4Zq6I61Oix9JR4hFkc5Ym18/edit?usp=sharing

And just a final reminder that students and their families should still be using the Ontario School Screening Tool before coming to school each day, it is continuously being updated by the Province, Ministry and Public Health  https://covid-19.ontario.ca/school-screening/

Rapid Antigen Test kits (RATs) for Covid continue to be available from the school office if families need them.

We look forward to a great day of learning tomorrow and we hope our families enjoy an extended weekend. We’ll see everyone on Monday, June 6th  at 850am.
