HHES Update – April 6, 2023

Posted April 6, 2023

Dear Parents and Guardians,

We at Hyland Heights Elementary School would like to wish all of our families a safe and relaxing long weekend.  This weekend marks an important time for many members of our community:

Celebrate this long weekend!

This weekend is Easter, one of the principal holidays, or feasts, of Christianity. It marks the Resurrection of Jesus three days after his death by crucifixion. For many Christian churches, Easter is the joyful end to the Lenten season of fasting and penitence.

This week also marks the beginning of Passover, one of the most commonly observed Jewish holidays. Passover is also called Pesach and celebrates the exodus of the Israelites from slavery in Egypt.

This month is also Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, observed by Muslims worldwide as a month of fasting, prayer, reflection and community.

For our Sikh families it is Vaisakhi – the Sikh New Year festival which is one of the most important dates in the Sikh calendar. Vaisakhi is a spring festival which happens on the 13 or 14 of April every year. It marks the start of the Punjabi New Year, but it is also a day to celebrate 1699 – the year when Sikhism was born as a collective faith.

How lovely to celebrate our similarities AND our differences together!

For all those celebrating this weekend we wish you joy and peace. Happy Easter, Chag Pesach Sameach (Happy Passover Holidays),Ramadan Mubarak and Happy Vaisakhi!

Yard supervision in the morning

just a reminder to parents that our supervision begins at 8:35am every morning.  To keep everyone safe, please remind your child to stay on the tarmac when they arrive at school in the morning.  Some students have been seen on the large snow hill or running through the parking lot before 8:35am.

Spring time mud

We are happy to welcome Spring!  Spring weather means our playground is wet and muddy.  Please make sure your child is dressed appropriately for the up and down temperatures we get this time of year.  Please be sure to include a set of extra clothes and socks in your child’s backpack so they have a change of clothes if they get muddy or wet during recess.
