Extreme Cold Weather Information

Posted January 15, 2024

With the next week forecasted to be very cold, we would like to share the guidelines about how we decide whether or not we go out for recess.  The wind chill effect on the temperature is one of the biggest factors that we consider when deciding if students will go outside. Eg -18 degrees feels like -27 degrees means that the actual air temperature is -18 but the wind chill makes it feel like -27. If there is little to no wind we usually try to go out but if the wind is blowing we will stay in or we will shorten recess.

Teachers can take their class out or DPA for short periods throughout the day.  Please make sure your children are dressed for the cold temperatures.  (If you need help outfitting your child please let us know here at the school.)

Wishing you all warm thoughts today!
