Hyland Heights News for March 12th

Posted March 12, 2021

Good evening Parents & Guardians,

We have had another good week here at Hyland Heights. Everyone looked ready for summer in their Hawaiian shirts and floral leis today.

Mr. Palmer’s class is raising awareness for causes important to them. Topics include epilepsy, adoption, the farmers protest in India, and protecting the environment. Students have designed water bottles to help continue to raise awareness. There is more information on the board website and Twitter. Please be sure to check it out. We are very proud of these students and the work that they have shared with our entire school. Please ask your child about the media campaigns that they watched and talked about in class.

Our spirit days continue throughout the month of March:

-Green Day or Leprechaun Day- March 17th

-Rock Your Socks Day in recognition of World Down Syndrome Day- March 22nd

-Wear Purple in recognition of World Epilepsy Day- March 26th

Please continue to check our school website for other updates. We also post to the UG Connect App and Twitter.

A few reminders as we head into the weekend:

-Please remember to use our Kiss n’ Ride that is in the high school parking lot, close to our kindergarten pack. The front parking lot in front of the school is closed for buses at the beginning of the day, during the middle of the day when the high school uses our parking lot for their busing needs, and the end of the day. Thank you for being cooperative and using the Kiss n’ Ride so our students and staff are safe.

-Each child and staff member must complete the self-screening tool that is posted on our school website. Please do not send your child to school if they do not pass the screening and follow the advice that is given when you receive your child’s self-screening results.

-If your children do need to be sent home due to COVID protocols please have a plan in place for quick pick up. Children do need to remain in our isolation room while awaiting pick up. Please also remember that our school staff must follow the directions of Public Health and that we are doing our best. We recognize that this can be stressful for families as well.

-Please remind your children to dress appropriately for the ever-changing late winter and early spring weather. Children will be going outside. It is also a good idea to pack an extra change of clothes due to mud and puddles. Please label all your children’s belongings as well.

-Please remember to call into the school if your child is absent. This is important to ensure the safety of all of our students. As we sure you are aware, this is an important task for our office coordinator Mrs. Marshall or Mrs. Turai every day. This is important to do even if we have sent a child home due to COVID protocols. Thank you for your cooperation.

-Please remember to bring water to school to drink. Our water fountains are closed due to COVID protocols, but our water bottle refilling stations are open.

-Grade 8 Grad Photo Day is this Monday, March 15th.

Finally, thank you to all our students and families who are following all the COVID safety protocols including: wearing masks, maintaining distance, completing the daily self-screening tool, not making deliveries to the office, and the list goes on.  We know that the pandemic has been very difficult on all of us, but we certainly appreciate the support of our school community.  Thank you for your patience, kindness, and understanding as we all navigate this very different time.

Take care and have a great weekend. Don’t forget that the clocks spring ahead this weekend. We’ll see everyone here on Monday.
