PMPS Weekly Update February 8th, 2024

Posted February 8, 2024

Good afternoon Mustang Families,

As February continues, we are recognizing Black Heritage, Black Brilliance, and Black Futures month here at our school. We are learning about influential black role models on our daily announcements, during classroom activities, and through school displays. We are proudly flying the Pan African flag for the month of February to recognize this month. Walking from classroom to classroom students are participating in read alouds, reading independently, writing poetry and biographies about black brilliance. Please ask your child all about it.

Our junior and intermediate classes have picked the students who will represent them at our school wide speak off on Monday. Our curling team has won all of their games so far this season and we just hosted our local schools at our PMPS badminton tournament. Our younger students learned all last week about ground hogs and polar bears. Our primary students are also getting excited about the 100th day of school. There  are lots of 100th day celebration collections being displayed.

Our Twitter account is full of updates, please check it out: @margaret_ps . I update our website regularly as well: www.ugdsb.ca/PrincessMargaret/ . Our school council also posts to Instrgram @princessmargaretps. Please take a moment to have a look.

Reminders:

Snacker the Cracker Drive: Our first cracker drive was so successful that we had crackers for all our students in 2023. We need your help again as our supply is running low. We are asking for help re-stocking our shelves with more boxes of crackers. Extra boxes of crackers will be stored so we can continue to provide snacks to students all year long. We kindly ask that donations be peanut-free! Donations can be fed to Snacker the Cracker Monster located near the school’s front entrance. Thank you for your continued support.

Kindergarten Registration: An important reminder that all children born in 2020 can now register for junior kindergarten. Please see our school website for more information and to register online. It is important to have everyone register as enrollment  numbers for the 24/25 school year are submitted in early February. Having accurate numbers now, helps us avoid reorganizations in the fall. Thank you.

Milk & Popcorn Sales: Our wonderful Student Council continues to sell milk.  The milk costs $1.00 each. Milk sale profits support our Student Council. Our Student Council is selling popcorn for $2.00 on Monday/ Wednesdays/ Fridays as well.

Emergency Food Programs: The Dufferin & Area Food Access Guide lists many local emergency and community food programs serving Dufferin residents. The Dufferin & Area Food Access Guide lists many local emergency and community food programs serving Dufferin residents.
