Sept 9th – EMAIL TO SIB FAMILIES

Posted September 9, 2020

Dear SIB families,

School starts this Thursday or Friday for most of our SIB Students and we can’t wait to get started!
Please read the important information below and click the links for more information as this year we need everyone’s help in making this a smooth transition and safe for everyone.

#1 Dropping off and Picking up Students:
FIRST DAY – We understand that the first day of school is a special moment for families. Due to COVID however, we are asking that parents take pictures of their children at home before they arrive at school. Our goal will be to limit the amount of time parents are in the school yard for safety and social distancing reasons.
Social Distancing on the school yard – Parents are reminded to have their children arrive just before the start of school (8:40am) this will help ensure that students are respecting the Public Health social distancing recommendations. Also, parents if you are walking younger students to the school at the start of the day, please encourage your child to line up quickly and then you can leave the yard as quick as possible to avoid large groups gathering on the school grounds.
Kiss’N’Drive – The full explanation of the Kiss’N’Drive system will work this year is available at the link below. The most important thing to remember is that:
DUE TO COVID-19 AND GENERAL SAFETY GUIDELINES, PARENTS WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO GET OUT OF THEIR CARS AT THE KISS’N’DRIVE LOCATION, THEREFORE ONLY CHILDREN WHO CAN HANDLE THEIR OWN SEATBELTS AND CAN OPEN AND CLOSE THE CAR DOORS INDEPENDENTLY CAN USE THE KISS’N’DRIVE. PARENTS OF YOUNG CHILDREN MUST PARK THEIR CARS ON ONE OF THE MANY SIDE STREETS AROUND THE SCHOOL AND WALK THEIR CHILDREN TO AND FROM SCHOOL.

#2 Every year, schools (including SIB) have built class lists based on their tentative organizations. Changes to classes may be necessary at our school based on numbers in the building and the board as a whole. A full explanation of the possible reorganization process is here: https://www.ugdsb.ca/sibps/2020/09/08/important-messages-about-school-organizations/

#5 PARENTS OF STUDENTS WHO RIDE THE BUS:
Parents need to go to the Transportation website to get bus info to start the year as well as updates as the year progresses. Check out STWDSTS’s Parent Portal for more: https://stwdsts.ca
Please follow @STWDSTS for bus/transportation updates throughout the school year.
DON’T FORGET: Riders must self-screen prior to riding the bus and wear a mask. Also, riders will be assigned seating and these arrangements must be respected while on the bus.
—————————————————————————————————————

We ask that all SIB parents share this important information with family and friends who may also have students attending schools in the UGDSB to ensure we have reached everyone as we are only a week away from starting school.

News regarding the return to school is being updated daily. SIB will continue to communicate with families step by step with information when it becomes available as we move through to the beginning of the school year. Please continue to check your email, twitter and our website https://www.ugdsb.ca/sibps/ daily for updates.

Stay a safe distance and stay positive!
