Principal’s Message – September 10, 2022

Posted September 10, 2022

What a fantastic first week of school.  It is so great to be together again and see our students.  Everyone seems excited to be back and are enjoying the new playground and line painting.

This week a lot of forms went home for signing.  Please make sure that you return them this week.  Also, coming home this week are our Student Verification Sheets.  THESE ARE EXTREMELY IMPORTANT.  This is the information that we have in our computer system on contact information, custody arrangements, etc.  It is particularly important we have your accurate phone number if we need to contact you regarding your child during the school day.  Also extremely important is that we have your accurate email address.  This is how you are able to get messages from the office and access your child’s report card throughout the year.  Please review these carefully and return them to school promptly.

We are excited to announce that teams and clubs are beginning again.  Please remember to follow us on Twitter (@SpencerAvenueES) as I will attempt to post when clubs and teams are meeting if you would like to encourage your children to get involved…after all school is what you make it.

This coming  Monday we have invited our grade 7 and 8s to join our Spencer Spirit Squad (Triple S).  This team will lead our colour houses, plan assemblies and events to lift the spirit and the building and promote our Spencer Values of belonging, connecting, wondering, honouring, beauty and freedom.  We are meeting in the gym at 10:50am for a brief meeting.

Junior (4, 5 and 6) students interested in being lunch helpers in our primary classes are reminded that their applications are due to the office on Monday morning.

Intermediates (7 and 8) who would like to be office helpers are also reminded to drop off their applications to the office on Monday morning.

Students in both the junior and intermediate grades are reminded to pay close attention to the daily announcement slide deck to find out when the try-outs and practices are for our soccer teams. The season is short with the inter-school tournaments happening the last week of September.

Mark your calendars…we are having our in-person Meet the Teacher Night from 5:30pm to 7pm on Thursday, September 22.  Join us a little early to officially open our new outdoor playground at 5:00pm.

It is going to be a fantastic year!
