Principal’s Message – September 25, 2023

Posted September 25, 2023

We are making the most of this beautiful September weather and enjoying a few more classes outdoors before the cooler weather comes.  We are also looking forward to our soccer teams participating in the tournaments this week, and our cross country runners getting ready for the county meet on Tuesday of next week.

Just a note about our playground.  We had some inquiries about footwear on the climbing pieces.  We checked the OPHEA guidelines and running shoes must be worn on the climbing pieces to avoid injury.  We encourage you to send your children with outdoor running shoes so they can enjoy all aspects of the school yard during gym, DPA and recess.

This week we are acknowledging Truth and Reconciliation Week.  The board has provided teachers with grade appropriate resources vetted and created by our board’s Indigenous Lead to educate our students about the history of Canada’s relationship with Indigenous peoples.  Teachers will be sharing videos and stories, and there will be daily announcements on our daily slide deck.  On Friday we will recognize Truth and Reconciliation Day by wearing Orange Shirts.

Tuesday is our first School Council meeting of the year.  All parents are welcome to attend.  The meeting will happen in the library at 6:30pm.  We will begin by having our election for executive positions.  Please find the agenda for the meeting below:

On Thursday from 5:30pm to 7pm we are having our Meet the Teacher Night.  Parents are invited to come to say hello to their child’s teacher(s) and to see the classroom.  Additionally, there will be the Scholastic Book Fair in the library with proceeds going to purchase neat items to support STEAM.  A reminder that this is a brief meet and greet as we want to give all parents the opportunity to meet their child’s teacher.  If you would like to connect with your child’s teacher to discuss issues or concerns please send an email so that you are able to set up a separate time to chat with them.   We look forward to seeing you there.
