Principal’s Message – October 5, 2023

Posted October 5, 2023

As I write this, the office phone is ringing with parents letting us know that they are picking up their kids  for extended Thanksgiving weekends.  We hope that all of you have a fantastic long weekend with your family.

This week we sent 80 runners to our cross country meet.  The students were excited to share stories of perseverance and personal bests.  Thanks so much to our coaches Ms. McLellan, Mme. Scanlan and Mr. Curry.  As you can imagine, there is a lot of work that goes into having a team this size.  Thanks to all our parent volunteers and cheerleaders.  This is always a highlight on the sports calendar.

Thank you to all the parents who have already sent in food for our Food Drive in support of the Orangeville Food Bank.  The drive continues until October 13.  Special thanks to one of our grade 7 students (you know who you are) who took the money they earned in the summer and went shopping for the food drive. Our collection grew significantly.  Big or small it all makes a difference.

A note from Mrs. McLarnon – thank you to all families who supported the Book Fair.  We raised about $2 700 that will go towards books and things for the Makerspace.

We still have a number of students who have not returned their “Verification Forms.”  These forms provide us with up to date phone numbers, email addresses, etc.  It is extremely important that we have accurate information.  If, throughout the year, any of your information changes, please contact the office.

A reminder that dogs (other than service animals) are not allowed on school property during school hours.  We have a number of people in our community that have a fear of dogs and allergies.  If you are walking the dogs when picking up your children we ask that you wait on the sidewalk.

Public Health will once again be offering dental screenings for all JK/SK, grade 2, 5 and 7.  They will also screen any student if a parent asks.  The dental screenings are not happening until January 29 and January 30th, but we were asked to inform families now.  Please see the letter below for more information.
