Starting a club for intermediate students focusing on equity –anti-racism, LGBTQ+ alliance, students are brainstorming ideas

·       Raising a pride flag in the school year round

·       Students creating a survey to be inclusive of issues Gr7/8s are facing

·       Coming up with a list of things students can do to address issues and make sure all groups are represented

Week of Nov 22^nd is Anti-bullying week: with class activities and lessons

·       Bullying survey for junior and intermediate students

·       Parent question raised about noting the difference between neurodiverse kids and bullying: empathy for all.

Progress Reports: being finalized now. Will be uploaded and accessed electronically starting Tuesday November 16^th.

Great Learning for Diwali too: learning about the significance of lanterns in Diwali.

Hayley Holm has been reappointed to Principal at Brant Ave PS, Cassie Broadhead will become VP at TEPS.

Safe Schools/Bullying Prevention Plan

Parent Council reviewed the plan with Ken, as posted on the website: (https://www.ugdsb.ca/tevans/resources/ )

·       A parent volunteer is needed for the Safe Schools committee

COVID Update: We have had one class closure.

·       Protocol is to notify the parents affected, then it’s posted to the board website. Ken will see if they can still send out a notice to all parents.

·       Also looking into reminders for parents that covid screening questions have changed.

·       In a full system shutdown that would close the school, school would be online and virtual.

Additional EA support?

·       We have received an additional .5 EA support, for 7.5 staff in total.

Any school sports?

·       Not right now. Still no intramurals or inter-school sports.

Other fundraising ideas: Jackie is compiling a list of options; Sandy is looking into online options.

Also – interested in non-fundraiser fun for kids: Like a winter fun day for kids, given that kids have missed out on lots of regular activities due to COVID.

Jackie noted that teachers have sent their appreciation for the speakers and microphones, and the allowance for supplies for each class.
