School Report Great Moments in Teaching:

·         Science of Reading program underway

·         Gr 7s had a Human Trafficking presentation by WIC

·         Promoting the “No, go, tell” strategy for school and social media bullying

·         Colour House Day last week was a success

·         Talent show coming up: May 1/May 2

·         May 5th Grade 8s going to GCVI to see Stacey K

·         Tree-planting Day May 12th

·         Chess club tournament coming up

·         Intermediate badminton and Jr Badminton underway

·         Staffing updates

Questions What about extracurricular sports? Soccer or Track and Field?

·         Soccer is usually in the fall

·         Track and Field has been confirmed for intermediates but not yet for junior

Is there need for a food/snack program?

·         Not a big need right now but need is increasing

·         There are snacks available to children: apples, cheese, etc

Treasurer Report The treasurer encouraged teachers to submit receipts for approved spending.

·         Total revenue available this year $12,500

·         Each teacher allotted $100 – $3600 total

·         Already allocated:

o   Phys Ed $500

o   DD class supplies $50

o   Scientists in Schools ?

o   Logs $1350

·         Spent about $6500

·         Leaves about $6000 in account

Considerations for existing accounts:

·         Recess Equipment: $1000

·         Greening $500

·         Science: $500

Updated Funding Requests:

·         Primary – new request science of reading book sets – $110 per book, $710 for 5 copies (4 for primary teachers, 1 for Junior)

·         Scientists in School

·         Outdoor DPA Kit – $200

·         Kindie pinnies $150

·         Kindie field trip cost offset – $820 is total cost, Council’s share is $100

Fundraising Chocolate Bars Fundraiser Update

·         Still 12 families haven’t paid

·         5 cases returned otherwise than can be returned

·         May have a few returns this week

·         $5500 plus credit for 5 cases and any other returns

·         Will be better to opt in next year and have prizes

·         Can parents still make a donation? This week only.

Event ·         Combined movie night and family fun night

·         June 1st – dinner/food trucks and activities from 5-7 then a movie at 7

·         Amber offered to lead coordinate, with Richard and Katie to help
