Principal’s Message – May

Posted April 29, 2019

Dear Parents/Guardians,

We have officially commenced the spring season at Willow. The playground is open and students have taken to a number of different play activities outside. As the weather continues to warm up, please be cognizant of preparing your children with appropriate clothing and items such as hats and sunscreen to protect them from the sun and heat.

In the month of May will be recognizing mental health and providing students with opportunities to learn and engage in this topic. Research has shown that 1 in 5 people will be diagnosed with some form of a mental health issue over their lifetime. We can definitely identify with these statistics and feel that students across all schools require support in this area. We hope that raising awareness and talking about strategies, can help to start the process of supporting those with mental health concerns.

There are a number of activities planned for our students over the month of May. Please follow your classroom teachers correspondence and the school communication through the website and Messenger App to stay informed about these opportunities.

This month our Gr. 3, 6, and some of our Gr.8 students will be participating in EQAO testing. It is very important that students are on time and at school during testing dates. Doing so, helps to ensure we can support students to effectively complete the required tasks.

Have a wonderful month of May and please feel free to reach out to me personally if you have any questions or concerns about our school and/or your child.

Sincerely,

Steve Viveiros
