DownloadKISS AND RIDE

It has been very busy in the Kiss and Ride area and the parking lot.  The Kiss and Ride zone is meant as a drop and go area.  Cars are not to be parked and left unattended.  If you need to park, pull into a parking spot or park on the available side streets.  We need to keep the parking lot clear and the bus area.  Again, if we are not able to minimize the traffic coming through our kiss and ride, we will need to take steps to close the Kiss and Ride.  Please choose safety over convenience!

COVID UPDATESLogo

There is lots of information being shared and constantly updated.  Please continue to check the Board and School websites.  Please note that if your child has not passed the COVID-19 screening tool, their brothers and sisters must also isolate, as per Public Health guidelines.  Should you have further questions regarding COVID-19, please go to the Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health website at www.wdgpublichealth.ca, and go to the “FOR SCHOOLS” link.  Thank you.

COVID SCREENING – https://covid-19.ontario.ca/school-screening/

Please continue to screen your child(ren) for symptoms of COVID-19.  If there are symptoms, children and siblings need to stay home from school.  If COVID-19 is suspected, testing is recommended.

The “Forest of Reading” is well underway at William C. Winegard! Students in various classes are listening to or reading books from this year’s nominees. The program, sponsored by the Ontario Library Association, features Canadian authors and illustrators, and all of the books have been published within the last year or so. Even if students decide not to join the optional reading clubs, these books now belong to our library and students will have access to them for years to come– from beautiful picture books to adventurous graphic novels to non-fiction texts packed with information!

RECESS REMINDERS

As we move into the early spring season, our yard can become wet, icy and slippery. Staff send reminders to children who like to ‘explore’ our puddles and mud of the need to stay away from these areas for both safety and cleanliness reasons. We will deem exceedingly muddy, icy and wet areas off limits to students. However, it is inevitable that some children will find mud and become wet and dirty. Please consider adding an extra pair of socks and pants to your child’s backpack. Put it into a plastic bag that can then be used for the muddy, wet clothes.

COATS’S CORNER – News from the Office

MOVING?

If you are moving please make sure to contact the office.

Students who arrive late will come through the front door and check in at the office. At this time parents/guardians are not to come into the building. If there is any communication that needs to come to the office, please call the school.

MENTAL HEALTH WEBSITE

The new UGDSB Parent Website for student mental health and well-being is active!! The URL for the new website is: www.ugdsb.ca/mhugparents

We are very excited about this website as it will provide valuable information and resources for parents as we collaborate in supporting the mental health and well-being of students at Upper Grand.

FOOD AND FRIENDS at HOME

This initiative has transitioned to Food & Friends at Home since the start of the new school year. Families with children and youth supported by the Children’s Foundation through the Food & Friends Program are eligible to register for a Food & Friends at Home kit. This kit will provide one snack for each day of a two-week period similar to what would be provided through a Food & Friends student nutrition program.  The Food & Friends at Home kits will follow nutritional guidelines. Deliveries will be made to the doorsteps of families in Dufferin, Wellington and Guelph. For the safety of families and the community, volunteers delivering the kits will not enter homes.

Families in need of food support can register for a Food & Friends at Home kit at

https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSe0rYoYJqaVD4RZUc0R_Bnrv8AucKHgBD5cp4nW6X5mD38yIw/viewform . To receive delivery, applicants must give consent to share the information on the application form with staff and volunteers who will be packing and delivering the kits. Only one registration is required per family.
