October News

Posted October 2, 2023

DownloadSeptember was a wonderful month at WCW.  As a school we are working together to build our communities and a strong foundation to be able to delve into our learning.  It was a pleasure to see and welcome our families at Open House.   We hope the WCW students have been sharing the new learning that has been taking place, such as the work done last week learning and understanding about Truth and Reconciliation.

This academic year, we are excited to share our initiative aimed at fostering excellence and positive contributions among our students.  Our teachers will be facilitating conversations and activities throughout each month that focus on these core principles. These discussions and activities will help our students understand the importance of excellence and positive contributions in their lives.  As part of this initiative, we will be recognizing and celebrating outstanding student achievements each month. One student from each class will be awarded the “Leader of the Pack” award. This award will be given to a student who exemplifies our commitment to excellence in themselves, our school community, and our world.

Attendance

We understand the significance of regular school attendance and the role of established routines in helping students develop knowledge, skills, and confidence. We also acknowledge that maintaining consistent attendance depends on fostering strong partnerships between families and the school, as well as maintaining open lines of communication.

In this regard, our school intends to send an informational letter to parents in October to notify them if their child has accumulated 10 or more absences or a high number of lates.

Terry Fox Update

We had a great Terry Fox Walk/Run last Friday!  So far we have raised $1625 towards our $2000 goal.  We are still collecting donations this week if you have been meaning to donate, but haven’t had a chance!  https://schools.terryfox.ca/41426  Thank you so much for your support!

Kids Ability

During this school year, an Occupational Therapist (OT) from KidsAbility Centre for Child Development will once again be working with teachers and students in our school.

OTs are regulated health professionals who focus on improving activities of daily living. An OT will be in our school on a regular basis to support teachers in our classrooms, gym, and playground. This support is available to all classrooms.

KISS AND RIDE

The Kiss and Ride zone is meant as a drop and go area for students who are able to get from the car to our tarmac area independently.  Cars are not to be parked and left unattended.  If you need to park, pull into a parking spot or park on the available side streets.  We need to keep the Kiss and Ride area moving, our parking lot clear, and the bus area open for buses only.

BOOMERANG LUNCHES

We are once again encouraging Boomerang Lunches.  This means that all items (recyclable and garbage) will return home at the end of each day to be put in your home garbage or recycling containers.  Please ensure that your child has a water bottle to refill.

ImagesSCHOOL COUNCIL

We have an exciting new fundraiser for our Winegard families this fall. We’ve partnered with Martin’s Family Fruit Farm to bring you delicious apples and apple chips. This fundraiser is set to run from September 30th to Tuesday, October 10th. Orders can be placed on School Cash Online and will be available for pickup at the end of October.

And mark your calendars for another much-anticipated event: the Winegard Holiday Bazaar returns on Saturday, November 25th. It’s a fantastic opportunity to kick off the holiday season and find unique gifts, while supporting small businesses. Interested in becoming a vendor? Send an email to [email protected]. To stay updated on all these exciting developments, please keep an eye on your emails and school Facebook groups.
