Students enrolled in the Upper Grand District School Board’s Beyond Borders experiential learning program have inspired their community to raise a total of $133,000 for Doctors Without Borders, Guelph General Hospital and back into the Beyond Borders program for future UG students. Like every year, the class of twelfth graders put together different community-minded projects – like a charity car wash and hosting a grade-8 night – before leading up to their formal grand charity event; which took place January 20, 2024. The event was a huge success and the students of the program sold out the River Run Centre where they hosted the formal event.  Throughout the six-week leadership program, Adrina and her classmates said they learned a lot about the value of teamwork. The program started off by teaching them about leadership, before allowing them to develop and grow into their own leadership styles while taking on different classroom projects and roles. “We wouldn’t have been able to do it without the cooperation and trust between individuals and teams. It is also something that we will remember for the rest of our lives, from all the planning that we put in, to the night itself, all 60 of us gave it our all,” said Adrina.
