Hyland Heights News for April 9th

Posted April 9, 2021

Good evening Parents and Guardians,

We want to say thank you to all our students and families who are following all the COVID safety protocols including: wearing masks, maintaining distance, completing the daily self-screening tool, and the list goes on.  We know that the pandemic has been very difficult on all of us, but we certainly appreciate the support of our school community.  We also want to acknowledge the hard work of students and teachers who have shifted to remote learning again this week. Thank you for your patience, kindness, and understanding as we all navigate this very different time.

We have some updates about our return to school after the Spring break. A reminder that is April break is next week from the 12th to the 16th. We are hopeful we will all return to in person learning on the 19th of April. Please continue to check our school and board website for updates. We also post to the UG Connect App and Twitter. If it is important, we will do a call or email like this one as well.

Some of the updates about our return to school include:

On-site confirmation of self-screening

  • Elementary: there is a new requirement for students to provide ‘on-site confirmation of self-screening’ on the first day we return to class in person. Further information will follow about what this process will look like.

Refresher training upon return from break

  • Once again, staff will review COVID protocols with students when we return to class after the break.

Letter to parents promoting best practices for a safe April break

Please read the following information:

At this critical point in the pandemic, the following public health measures are crucial to help prevent and limit the spread of COVID-19:

  • Socialize with your own household
  • Stay home and get tested if you feel ill
  • Participate in the targeted testing offered in your school community
  • Screen every day, including during spring break, for COVID-19 symptoms (the COVID-19 School and Child Care Screening Tool is available to assist families with symptom screening)
  • Practice good hand hygiene habits, masking, and physical distancing
  • Refer to the province’s website to learn what public health measures are in place in our community
  • Refrain from travelling

We also wanted to let families know that because of the provincial stay at home order, our photography company, Lifetouch will not be doing school wide pictures this year. After the stay at home order lifts, they will be concentrating on taking grad photos for other schools who have not had their photos taken yet.

Finally, have a wonderful April Break. We are hopeful to see everyone back on the 19th at 850am.
