Bag2School fundraiser

Posted March 25, 2019

The textile industry is the second greatest polluting industry in the world after only oil.  Currently 85% of textile waste is still disposed of in landfill, yet it is almost 100% recyclable (96% – 97% recoverable).

From April 1 to April 23, ILPS is holding the Bag2School fundraiser. Please bring your donations of used clothing, shoes, boots, belts, purses and outerwear in garbage bags, to the hallway in front of the ILPS Library. On April 24, the items will be collected, weighed, then later shipped overseas to be sold as quality used clothing. This not only helps to divert tons of textile waste from the landfill, but also boosts affordable clothing markets in developing countries.

ILPS has been challenged to divert a minimum of 1 300 lbs. Bag2School will pay $200/ton of clothing collected.  It’s a great way for ILPS to raise money to revitalize our school garden. Plus, it feels good to be green.

Check out the Bag2School postcard that your child will bring home on Monday for more information.

Thanks for your help.
