Hello March!

March

 Message from the School

As we move into March, it is hard to believe that we are already more than halfway through the academic year. The days get longer and the weather gets warmer.

As we look forward to the warmer temperature, it is important that our students are dressed appropriately for the weather.  Layers are always best and provide the most options for variable weather.

Students are busy learning inside and outside their classrooms by experimenting, creating, writing, acting, speaking and discussing.

Have a safe and happy March Break between the 11th to 15th.

JMC PRO (Parents Reaching Out) GRANT application – APPROVED!
The PRO Grant program offers funding to school boards aiming to address barriers that prevent parents and families from actively participating in their children’s education. JMC successfully applied for a PRO Grant through UGDSB, securing funding of up to $1000. The grant will support an event focusing on bolstering the mental health of children, parents, and families, with particular attention to managing screen time, including social media and video games. The event will feature a night for parents and students, providing insights on the benefits and drawbacks of technology, along with strategies to improve overall well-being. A committee will oversee the planning of the event, and those interested in joining can reach out via email to [email protected].

Attention! There will be no parent council meeting in March. The next meeting will be April 9th.
Save the date – JMC’s Family Fun Night is scheduled for Thursday June 6th. Interested in volunteering? Sign up here:https://forms.gle/V4RRL9VnvgtJWbd38

Moving Day

MOVING IN? MOVING OUT?

If you are planning a move to another school next September, please notify the office right away. This greatly assists us in our enrollment projects for the coming school year. Please note: if your student is currently in JK and your family is moving between now and August 31st, please contact the school right away. (Your move might create a spot for a JK student on our French Immersion waitlist.)

ALS Event

We will be having an event dedicated to supporting the fight against ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis). This event is more than just a fundraiser; it’s a gathering of hope and solidarity for those affected by ALS, and an opportunity to highlight the courage and resilience of Madame Margie Johnson, who is currently battling this disease.

This event, which will include a walk by the river, will take place on Saturday, March 23rd, at 3 p.m.

The money raised will be allocated to ALS Canada.

 The CYC Corner

Self-Advocacy is important to teach our children. All children need to know that they have the ability to create positive change in their world. As parents, we can show them by role-modeling and encouraging them to speak up for themselves. Our internal dialogue is key to our success. If we believe in ourselves then others will do the same.

Self-Advocacy is:

  • understanding who you are – strengths, areas for improvement, goals, interests, etc. and being able to communicate those ideas to others
  • Being able to self-assess and identify areas where support would be beneficial
  • Communicating with those who can offer support in ways that let them know what and how to help

                              Always advocate for your

                              Determine what your needs are

                              Voice your concerns

Only you know how you feel

                              Consider solutions

                              Ask for help

                              Tell others what you need

                               Educating others is important

“When the world is silent, even one voice becomes powerful.”
