Dear Grade 8 Families,
We are very excited that your child will be attending John F. Ross CVI, and we look forward to seeing them at our Grade 9 Orientation Day on Thursday, August 28 from 8:30am to (approximately) 1:15pm. Over the course of the morning, students will meet new friends, participate in a variety of fun activities, tour the school, and learn their timetables.
Important details about Orientation Day are as follows:
Parent Meeting (optional): 8:30 a.m - 9:00 a.m in the JFR Library
Student Arrival:
Students can be dropped off at the front of the school or in the student parking lot (off Meyer Dr. closest to the football field) before 8:30 am.
Students are instructed to wait in a sectioned off area of the student parking lot and do not need to enter the school. There will be many Sidekick student leaders (wearing BRIGHT BLUE t-shirts) outside and inside the school assisting all grade nines as they arrive. Sidekick student leaders will be bringing all grade 9 students into the school at 8:30 am; please arrive on time.
This is a student-only function, so we encourage you to let your child attend on their own. Please feel free, however, to attend the optional PARENT MEETING that morning in the library starting at 8:30 a.m. if you would like to learn more about John F. Ross C.V.I.
Transportation:
There is no bus transportation for Grade 9 Orientation Day. Parents/Guardians will need to provide transportation to and from John F. Ross C.V.I. School bus transportation does not begin until September 3rd – the first day of school. *A reminder that Tuesday September 2nd is a PA Day this year.
What to wear:
It is recommended that students wear comfortable clothing that is school appropriate to participate in the many activities planned.
What to bring:
Just a water bottle; no school supplies are needed for the day. Lockers will not be given out until the first day of school. Any valuables should be left at home.
Lunch:
A BBQ lunch will be served starting at 11:30am. Veggie and halal options will be available, but unfortunately, we can’t guarantee any of our food is suitable for those with allergies due to a high risk of cross contamination in our multi-ingredient kitchen. Students may bring their own lunch/snacks if they wish.
Departure:
Depending on the flow of the day, pick up will be around 1:15pm. Please use the student parking lot (off of Meyer Dr. closest to the football field) when arranging pick up. The staff parking lot (across from Tim Hortons off Eramosa Dr.) will not be conducive to parent/guardian vehicles as staff will be at school on this day.
What to expect prior to Grade 9 Orientation Day:
Our Sidekicks student leaders will be calling home on August 26th and 27th, using the home phone number on file, to formally invite each of our grade 9 students to Orientation Day.
Parents and Students are also encouraged to check the John F. Ross website and social media accounts (Instagram: @johnfross) regularly starting in late August for any additional information.
