We are pleased to inform you that our students at John F Ross CVI will have the exciting opportunity to participate in an upcoming guest speaker presentation. This event has been carefully planned to enrich their learning experience and connect classroom concepts to real-world applications. Below are the details of the event:

The presentation will take place on Monday June 16, 2025 during periods 1, 2 and 3 in room 325 at John F Ross CVI
Title and Topic/Focus:
The session is titled "Introduction to Synthetic Biology: Gel Electrophoresis Lab", and will focus on an introduction to synthetic biology as it relates to our grade 12s’ molecular genetics unit. Students will have an opportunity to run a gel electrophoresis experiment to reinforce their learning.
Connections to the Curriculum and/or Purpose:
This presentation is designed to enhance students' understanding of biotechnology and applications of molecular biology and supports our curriculum by introducing students to new methods of how molecular biologists run experiments in industry settings.

Our guest speaker(s) for this event are Jashan Grewal, Jayden Samarasekera, and Alex D’Souza, representing the University of Waterloo iGEM team.
Materials, Giveaways, or Literature:
Waterloo iGEM will also be providing a hands-on learning experience for our grade 12 students to run a gel electrophoresis, which will serve as valuable resources to further engage students.
