PMPS Update for October 6, 2022

Posted October 5, 2022

Good morning Mustang Families,

I am sending out our update a little earlier, so you receive a reminder that tomorrow is School Colours day.

It’s been another good week at PMPS. We had 26 runners from grade 1 to 8 represent us at the Dufferin Cross County meet. Our runners ran proudly and represented our school well. We have a number of clubs continuing this week including: choir, gardening, and art expression club. We want to thank our teachers who coach and run these clubs. We are also fortunate to have student leaders who contribute their time and efforts to many things that make our school better. Student help with our food days, spirit days, our school sign, our announcements… the list goes on.

Grade 3s are preparing to write the CCAT testing next week. We know our students are working hard and trying their best. We have our grade 7 immunization clinic next week. Grade 7 please check your email for more information or the letter that was sent home. Please note that consent must be filled out online or children will not receive their vaccinations at school. Any questions, please just call our office and we’ll be happy to help.

Don’t forget you can also follow our school Twitter feed: @margaret_ps . I update our website regularly as well: www.ugdsb.ca/PrincessMargaret/ . We have so many great things happening at our school and I like to share with our community.

Students/families in Kindergarten to Grade 12 are encouraged to complete the UGDSB Counts Student Census survey by October 9, 2022. The link to complete the census can be found at the bottom of the email sent to parents/guardians (Kindergarten – Grade 8) and students (Grades 9-12+). It is a rectangular blue button that says “Begin Survey.” If you need assistance, please email [email protected].

Attendance/ Pick Ups During the Day:

It is very important that students attend school for the full day if they are well.  Having consistent attendance helps to build childrens’ stamina, sense of routine, and academic success. If your child is having trouble attending school regularly please give me a call and I will help.

BOYD Policy (Cellphones):

Children are expected to store their phones with staff during the day in the classroom. We have some students who are refusing to do this or even hiding their phones from staff. Please understand that phones can be very distracting to learning and can become problematic on the yard, in bathrooms etc. If students need to call home, they can do so at the office. Please avoid texting with your child during the school day. If you need to contact your child, please call our office and we will be glad to help. On another note, if phones are not stored with staff and they are misplaced or stolen, staff will not be responsible for the phone or investigating its whereabouts. Thank you for your support.

Illnesses  at PMPS:

With the recent school start and the change in weather we are seeing a lot of different illnesses in our school population. To diminish the spread of illnesses, families are reminded to screen their child(ren) before school daily, using the Ontario School and Child Care Screening tool and to follow its regularly updated guidance. The link to the screener is https://covid-19.ontario.ca/school-screening/ .If your child(ren) will be absent from school due to illness or any other reason, please don’t forget to contact the school office and leave a message on the attendance line. Thank you
