mental health

On May 13, with support from the Rotary Club of Erin, our school hosted a Mental Health & Wellness Day, designed to support students in developing healthy mental health strategies, fostering connections, and building resilience.

The event was in the morning  during period 1 and 2. After lunch students  attended their regularly scheduled afternoon classes during period 3 and 4.

The morning  will began with a presentation by our guest speaker, Ahmad Jabbir, who introduced students to the concept of mental fitness — the idea that, just like physical health, mental well-being can be strengthened through intentional daily practice.

Ahmad Jabbir encouraged students to reframe how they think about mental health, empowering them to proactively care for their emotional well-being. By sharing personal stories, practical tools, and relatable experiences, Ahmad helped students recognize that they are not alone in their challenges and that they have the ability to build inner strength to better manage life’s pressures. More information about Ahmad can be found at https://www.ahmadjabbir.com/

Following the presentation, students participated in a variety of wellness workshops designed to support different interests and ways of recharging. These included opportunities for creative expression, physical movement, quiet reflection, social connection, and time in nature.

Some of the activities included:

  • Art and personal expression

  • Board games and social connection

  • Physical activity

  • Journaling and self-reflection

  • Reading and tea in a quiet space

  • Outdoor activities and connecting with nature

  • And many more!

In addition to these experiences, students also had the chance to connect with over 23 local community organizations  that specialize in youth mental health and well-being . These connections were made in a low-stress, high-support environment, ensuring that students know where to turn for help and support when they need it most.

We believe that building awareness and providing access to mental health resources is a key step in supporting our students—not only during times of challenge but also in their day-to-day lives.

It was a successful day and was an important opportunity for learning, reflection, and connection!
