Literacy Test
Literacy Test
Each year the Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO) conducts the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT). The OSSLT measures whether students are meeting the minimum standard for literacy across all subjects up to the end of Grade 9. Successful completion of the literacy test is one of the requirements to graduate with an Ontario Secondary School Diploma.
Once again, grade 10 Westside students will have an opportunity to write the Literacy Test in the semester in which they are taking English. Our Fall administration of the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT), for grade 10 students enrolled in English semester 1, and all grade 11’s who need another opportunity to write the test, will be written as follows:
Grade 10's:
Grade 10 students enrolled in English semester 1 are scheduled to write the OSSLT on
Tuesday, November 25, 2025 (booklet 1) and
Wednesday, November 26, 2025 (booklet 2), in their English class.
Additional time will be provided for any student who requires it.
If you are a grade 10 student with English in your timetable for semester 2, you will write the test in that English class in Spring 2026.
Grade 11 and 12's:
Grade 11 and 12 students may also need to write the OSSLT if they were absent or unsuccessful on their previous attempt AND are electing to write it. These students will write both booklets on Tuesday, November 25, 2025 in the Library Learning Commons at 8:50am and should report to the Learning Commons first thing that morning.
EQAO has also provided a practice test for students to become familiar with the online test and its platform. For more information about EQAO and to access the full practice test, please visit the EQAO website www.eqao.com
Results from the Fall OSSLT are expected to be available by the end of January 2026.
