A Great Way to be Involved
Every year, School Councils have a positive impact on the schools they serve. On September 21st, our School Council will be holding it’s first virtual meeting for the 2021-22 school year starting at 6:30pm. Everyone is welcome!! A minimum of 4 meetings will be held throughout the school year. At these meetings, you can keep current with what’s happening at Victoria Cross Public School, understand the systems within the school and meet other parents in the area. All parents are welcome to all meetings. If you aren’t able to attend, minutes to our meetings will be posted on our website under the School Council tab.
In June, our current School Council members decided that nominations for Chair, Treasurer, and Secretary would be completed prior to our first meeting. If you or anyone else would like to be involved at that level, please fill in the attached form and return it to the school by Sept. 20th @4:00. These forms can be emailed directly to the school or you can send it in with your child (addressed to the office)
Masks at Recess
All UGDSB schools take direction from Public Health and the Ministry with regards to Covid guidelines. During the first 2 days, we at VCPS developed a plan that meets the guidelines for our students. We will continue to have “flip nutrition breaks”, meaning that only 1/2 of our school is on the yard at once, allowing for more physical distancing space for our students. Our yard has been divided into 3 areas, Kindergarten area, Primary area, Junior / Intermediate area. This is different from last year when students played in “lanes” with only their classmates. This year students are able to play with their friends from other classes in their assigned area, masking and distancing is required when students are playing with other students from different classes. Students playing with peers from their own class may choose not to wear a mask, knowing that physical distancing will continue to be encouraged. We ask that students wanting to play only with students in their class, without wearing a mask, move away from the hardtop area where students from mixed classes will be playing hardtop games (4 square, 8 square, wall ball, etc.). When staff take their class outside for outdoor learning opportunities, students will not be required to wear a mask (physical distancing will continued to be encouraged).
Staff will continue to remind students as we adjust to being at school together again! For more information, please see VCPS School Start Up Information for Families. If you have questions, please contact your child’s teacher or the office.
Note: Throughout the year, plans may change based on the guidelines set by Public Health and the Ministry.
UGDSB Ventilation Report
The UGDSB is continuing its work optimizing air quality in classrooms and learning environments through improving ventilation and filtration. Upgrades to ventilation and filtration systems began in the 2020-21 school year and will continue for the 2021-22 school year.
The UGDSB has received funding from the Provincial Government and Federal Government to allow the board to continue its work in optimizing ventilation and air quality in UGDSB schools and meet the provincial requirements for ventilation measures in schools. The UGDSB is also making investments in schools to go above and beyond the provincial requirements, as another layer of the protective strategies the board is utilizing to keep UGDSB learning and working spaces safe for students and staff.
Coming to School on the First Day – What you need to know
On Tuesday, September 7th, our staff will be ready and waiting for your children to return to school! We are so excited to see everyone! When students arrive, staff will direct them to the back of the school where the teachers will have grade signs (i.e., grade 2 or grade 6). At the 8:50 bell, staff will gather their homerooms and take students into their new classroom. Please remember, each year class placements are tentative, until the 2nd week in September, when class organizations are reviewed by the District Staffing Committee.
If you haven’t already, please check out our VCPS School Start Up Information for Families. As in previous years, we take direction from the Ministry and our Public Health Unit. As Covid guidelines are updated, we will continue to keep you informed in a timely manner. To keep up to date, please check the UGDSB website – www.ugdsb.on
Have a great long weekend!
A New School Year and A New Principal
Hello Victoria Cross Families!
