Technology Needs

Province directs schools to shift to remote learning from January 5-17, 2022
On Monday January 3, 2022, the provincial government announced that all Ontario schools will shift to remote learning from January 5 to at least January 17, 2022. Please read on for important information for families in the UGDSB.

Resumption of school delayed until Wednesday January 5, 2022
Today, the province of Ontario announced that the resumption of school will be delayed following the winter break. All schools will resume classes on Wednesday January 5, 2022. There will be no classes on Monday January 3 or Tuesday January 4. This direction is for all students including those enrolled in the elementary or secondary remote programs and for those in our special education self-contained classrooms.

College Heights SS students successfully complete chainsaw training
GUELPH, Ontario – Let ‘er rip! Congratulations are in order for Ms. Peterson’s SHSM Horticulture and Landscaping and Ms. Beatson’s SHSM Construction students at CHSS who successfully completed Chainsaw Training recently.
Shawn Doucette, College Heights Secondary School’s SHSM Lead provided the students with an interactive workshop rich in relevant industry standards, “the importance of having a trained individual deliver this information face to face cannot be underestimated,” said Doucette.

Information from the province on student rapid antigen testing over the winter break
On behalf of the Government of Ontario, the Upper Grand District School Board is distributing take-home rapid antigen screening kits to every elementary and secondary student who chooses to participate. Kits will be distributed prior to the winter break.

College Heights SS students use their technical skills to collaborate with local artist
Students at College Heights Secondary School were recently commissioned to collaborate on a unique piece of metal work for local artist Mike Salisbury.
Salisbury and College Heights have been working together on various projects for over five years. This project required accurate cutting and assembly using technical drawings in addition to some very creative welding.

On December 1, police reported that the have completed their investigation and that no charges will be laid. Police said they do not believe there was ever a risk to the school community. This is an important message from the Upper Grand District School Board regarding online report cards for secondary school students. The UGDSB will continue to use the online report card system for the 2021-22 school year. Final report cards for Quadmester 1 classes will be available online, as of Monday, November 22, 2021.

This year College Heights created a display to honour the children lost at the Mohawk Institute Residential School, in Brantford Ontario. This Project of Heart initiative involved the entire school and many thanks to all of the staff and students that took part.
