NATIONAL DAY FOR TRUTH AND RECONCILIATION
Today is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, also known as Orange Shirt Day. September 30 was chosen because this is when Indigenous students were forced back to the residential schools. Phyllis Webstad founded Orange Shirt Day because she remembers on her first day of residential school the orange shirt she was wearing was taken from her. Despite the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation being only one day, it is imperative that we work towards true reconciliation in our daily lives.

This week is Truth and Reconciliation Week across Canada. The week culminates with the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on September 30. This is also known as Orange Shirt Day. It is our responsibility to learn about the impact of the past on the present.
