ENG 3U1

This course emphasizes the development of literacy, critical thinking, and communication skills. Students will analyze challenging texts from various periods; conduct research and analyze the information gathered; write persuasive and literary essays; and analyze the relationship among media forms, audiences, and media industry practices. An important focus will be on understanding the development of the English language.

Note: This course fulfils one of the compulsory English requirements.

ENG 3C1

This course emphasizes the development of literacy, communication, and critical and creative thinking skills necessary for success in academic and daily life. Students will study the content, form, and style of a variety of informational and graphic texts, as well as literary texts from Canada and other countries, and create oral, written, and media texts in a variety of forms for practical and academic purposes. An important focus will be on using language with precision and clarity. The course is intended to prepare students for the compulsory Grade 12 college preparation course.

Prerequisite: English, Grade 10, Applied

EMS 301

This course is a good match for students who are creative, enjoy working with computers and are looking to start a portfolio of work for post-secondary applications. Students will learn fundamental skills of graphic design in a broad range of different media to design and manipulate graphics. They will also develop an understanding of photographic composition theory and apply it with their own digital and 35mm pictures. They will examine various films and apply related theories to the creation of their own short films. Finally, they will synthesize all of these skills for the design of a professional media package.
