Advanced Placement (AP) exams have been offered at Centennial C.V.I. for over 20 years in a variety of disciplines including biology, chemistry, physics, calculus, English literature, and computer science. There is a $140 fee to write each Advanced Placement exam. When a student is successful with an AP exam (receiving a score of 4 or 5), they will receive advanced placement or transfer credits at most Canadian and U.S. universities.
Centennial has AP courses that help students prepare for the rigors of the Advanced Placement exams. These courses will include all the same course materials as the regular grade 12 course but will cover extra topics and classes will be taught in an accelerated format. In May of the school year when the student takes the AP course, the student will then write an exam prepared and graded by the College Board in the United States. The grade on this AP exam determines whether the student receives advanced placement or transfer credits at Canadian universities.
Nearly all U.S. and Canadian colleges accept AP scores for placement or credit, as do many international universities. You can search AP credit policy at each university and check their regulation. Each university treats AP exam scores differently.
What is the difference between AP and IB?
Advanced Placement (AP) and International Baccalaureate (IB)
As of the 2025-2026 school year, Centennial will be offering the following Grade 12 AP courses:
AP Chemistry (SCH4UB),
AP Computer Science (ICS4UB),
AP English Literature (ENG4UB),
AP Biology (SBI4UB),
AP Physics 1 (SPH4UB),
AP Calculus AB (IDC4UB).
The Advanced AP Calculus AB course (IDC4UB) must be taken AFTER Calculus and Vectors (MCV4U). The AP Calculus course teaches integration and prepares students for the AP Calculus AB exam. This course is recommended for students planning to go into math, physics, computer science, or engineering.
