Orange Shirt Day

Dear CCVI Families,

Established in 2013 on September 30th, we wear orange shirts to recognize the legacy of the residential school system for First Nations, Métis and Inuit families and communities. We acknowledge the legacy of residential schools in Canada by wearing orange and we honour the survivors. We remember the thousands of children who were murdered and buried in unmarked graves. Tuesday September 30th marks the annual National Day of Truth and Reconciliation, which was passed by legislation in the summer of 2021 to become a federal statutory holiday.

All donations will go to The Survivors' Secretariat. The Survivors’ Secretariat is a Survivor-led, community-centered and trauma-informed organization established in 2021 to Uncover, Document, and Share the truth about what happened to the children at Mohawk Institute Indian Residential School. The Secretariat coordinates and supports the investigation into missing and disappeared children and unmarked burials associated with the institutes 140+ year legacy through the organization’s four pillars of Ground Search, Document Collection, Advocacy and Commemoration.

You can donate through school cash online or the Survivors' Secretariat website to donate: https://survivorssecretariat.ca/
