2025-2026 EQAO Literacy Test Information

OSSLT 2025-2026 Writing Windows:

Semester 1 Dates: November 17 - 24, 2025

Semester 2 Dates: March 30 - 31, 2026

The Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT) is a mandatory provincial standardized test, typically taken in grade 10, that assesses a student’s reading and writing skills. Success in the OSSLT or completion of the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Course is a graduation requirement. Students will have access to a Chromebook on the day of their test and will be provided with as much time as is needed. Phones and personal devices are prohibited during the test.

Grade 10 students will complete the OSSLT in semester one with their Period 1 teacher. The test is divided into two sessions. Students with IEPs will meet with a member from Student Services to discuss accommodation needs prior to the test. Practice resources will be provided by teachers ahead of time. Additionally, there is an Online Practice Test that students can take through the EQAO website.

Results for semester one tests are provided to schools by EQAO typically during the end of January. These will be mailed home to families. Grade 10 students who are unsuccessful or absent during the semester one testing window will be contacted for a second writing opportunity in the spring.

Grade 11 and 12 students who still need their Literacy Requirement will meet with a member from the Student Services team to arrange a writing session date or to enroll in the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Course.
