Why take Hospitality and Tourism?
Hospitality and Tourism takes a real life look at how to develop Cooking skills as well as how to apply them in the modern business world of Restaurants, Hospitality and Tourist Attractions.
Hospitality and Tourism Courses
HFN1O - Food and Nutrition: Students will practice basic cooking skills and participate in a variety of cooking labs that they get to eat. They learn about food related topics such as food safety, why we eat, Canadian and cultural foods, and nutrition. Students will test their skills in a final meal at home project for the family to enjoy!
TFJ2O1 - Baking: In this course we learn how to work safely and effectively in a professional Kitchen. Topics include how to make top quality Artisanal breads; Cake and Icing from scratch; Cake and cupcake design and Decoration; Fried dough and batter.
TFJ3C/3E Hospitality & Tourism: In this course we start to look at the role of a professional cook or chef. Topics include Food Safety; Meat and butchery; Profit making and Meal plating and design. At the end of this course a Student will be able to create a professional level meal and understand some of the issues that affect food pricing and sales.
TFJ4C/E - Hospitality & Tourism: In this course we not only focus on developing your cooking skills but also obtaining relevant trade certifications such as “Safe Food Handler” and “Smart Serve” which are a bonus to anyone who wishes to enter the trades or have reliable employment while they pursue their studies. Other topics include event planning and school safe bartending skills.
