History Course Descriptions

CHC2D/2P/2L – 20th Century Canadian History

  • Starting with WWI up to the 21st Century

  • Includes: Canada’s involvement with major battles in WWI, the roaring 20’s and Great Depression; Women’s Rights and the Suffrage Movement; Canada and WW2; Cold War; Regional Issues’ Indigenous Issues and Multiculturalism

  • Potential Field trips include: Royal Ontario Museum, Archives of Ontario, Canadian War Plane Museum, HMCS Haida, and Residential School Tour

CHW3M – World History to the 15th Century (Ancient and Medieval History)

  • Starting with the Big Bang and ending with the Renaissance and its connection to our modern world

  • Includes: The evolution of humans; first civilizations; Ancient Egypt, Greece and Rome; Early civilizations of Asia and Africa; Medieval Europe; Aztecs and Mayans; Renaissance

  • Potential Field Trips: Royal Ontario Museum, Aga Khan Museum

CHT3O – World History Since 1900: Global Regional Interactions

  • Starting with the birth of the 20th Century students will explore global and regional conflicts that developed in various countries and regions with a focus on Africa and Asia.

  • Includes: Turn of the century, WWI, 20’s 30’s WWII, Cold War and 21st Century world

CHY4C – World History since the 15th Century

  • This course explores key developments and events in the world since approximately 1450, with a focus on interactions within and between various regions.

  • Students will examines social, economic, and political developments and how they have affected different peoples.

CHY4U – World History since the 15th Century (The West and the World)

  • Beginning with the Renaissance, tracing the ideas, groups, movements and events which have shaped and created our world.

  • Includes: The Renaissance; Reformation; exploration; Scientific Revolution; Enlightenment; French Revolution; Napoleonic Europe; Industrial Revolution; Romanticism; State Consolidation; WWI and the Development of the 20th Century   

  • Option for AP (Advanced Placement Program) where students can achieve a University credit in European History

  • Potential Trips: ROM, Huron College- University of Western Ontario – University and Career experience
